IMEC Awarded $4 Million America’s Promise Grant to Fund Regional Job Training Partnerships

Chicago, Illinois – The Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center (IMEC) was named the recipient of a $4 million award by the U.S. Department of Labor under the America’s Promise grant initiative. IMEC is one of 23 regional workforce partnerships nationally to receive the funding.

The America’s Promise grants are designed to accelerate the development and expansion of regional workforce partnerships committed to providing a pipeline of skilled workers in specific sectors. Grantees will focus on in-demand industries such as information technology, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, financial services and educational services.

In Illinois, the grant funds will focus on helping individuals get the skills necessary for employment in manufacturing in the Chicago Metropolitan area with a focus on the southern part of the City and Cook County (the Calumet region). This award will bring together an extensive set of partners including Calumet Area Industrial Commission, Chicago Federation of Labor Workforce and Community Initiative including IBEW Local 134 and SMART Local 73, Prairie State College and the Chicago City Colleges, Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership, City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development, the Cook County Bureau of Economic Development, Jobs to Move America and the Chicago Metro Metal Consortium, among several others.

“Our partners represent a tremendous set of talent and commitment focused on continually strengthening our local workforce pipeline. With this vital funding from the Department of Labor, we will work closely with manufacturers to overcome the critical manufacturing skills gap,” said Dr. David Boulay, IMEC President.

The America’s Promise grant funding will be administered through IMEC and the participating partner organizations. For more information on solutions in the funding area, please visit www.imec.org or contact IMEC via phone at 888-806-4632 or email info@imec.org.
