SUMMARY:CMMC Paused\, Not Dead: Navigating the DoW's Phase II Suspension
DESCRIPTION:On July 13\, the Department of War hit pause on CMMC Phase II — the third-party assessment requirement that was supposed to kick-off this November. Cue a wave of “CMMC is dead” headlines. It’s not\, and treating it that way could actually put your business at risk. \nWe’ll break down what this pause actually means for manufacturers in the defense supply chain: what’s paused\, what’s still required today (yes\, your self-assessment and NIST 800-171 obligations are still very much alive)\, and how to use this window smartly instead of either freezing in place or dropping compliance efforts altogether. \nWe’ll also cover the open comment period the DoW has going right now\, and what to watch for as the reform review plays out over the next couple months. \nCome with questions — we’ll leave plenty of room for discussion. \n*Event details are subject to change. \n*Upon registration\, you will receive a confirmation email. SUMMARY:The Minor Servicing Exception Explained: Avoiding Pitfalls in LOTO Compliance
DESCRIPTION:OSHA’s Lockout/Tagout (Hazardous Energy Control) Standard remains one of the most frequently cited—and most misunderstood—requirements in manufacturing. While there are many compliance traps in the LOTO standard\, few concepts are as challenging as understanding and correctly applying the minor servicing exception (“MSE”)\, which allows manufacturers to perform certain limited tasks—such as clearing small jams\, adjusting guides\, lubricating components\, or making minor tooling changes—without fully implementing energy control procedures. This exception is intended for activities that are closely tied to normal production operations and can be completed quickly without exposing employees to significant risk. However\, determining whether a task qualifies is not always straightforward\, particularly when evaluating whether it is truly “routine\, repetitive\, and integral to production\,” as required by the standard. \nIn practice\, employers frequently misinterpret these criteria\, either applying the exception too broadly or overlooking key hazards. Even when tasks appear minor\, if they are not performed regularly\, follow a predictable pattern\, or are essential to the production process\, the exception may not apply. Even when they identify tasks that fall within the MSE\, manufacturers often struggle to implement alternative protective measures—such as safeguarding\, safe work procedures\, or presence-sensing devices—that are sufficiently effective to protect employees during these tasks. \nIn this webinar\, OSHA defense attorneys Aaron Gelb and Mark Ishu will be joined by Ted Sberna\, Lead Consultant at White Horse Safety Inc. and member of the ANSI B11 machine guarding standards committee\, for an informative discussion intended to clarify regulatory expectations and provide practical guidance for evaluating when the minor servicing exception applies and how to ensure worker safety when it does. \nParticipants in this webinar will learn: \n\nHow OSHA defines and interprets “routine\, repetitive\, and integral to production” in the context of the minor servicing exception\nPractical examples of tasks that typically qualify—and those that do not\nCommon compliance pitfalls and misconceptions that lead to improper use of the exception\nHow to conduct a defensible hazard assessment to determine whether full lockout/tagout is required What alternative protective measures are considered “effective” and how to implement them in real-world operations

SUMMARY:Part 3 - NEW TARIFF REALITY: Planning for Post-July 24 and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:On February 20\, 2026\, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a landmark ruling that struck down the broadest executive tariff authority in a generation. Within hours\, the Administration activated Section 122 — a 10% global import surcharge now in effect through July 24\, 2026. At the same time\, a U.S.-Israeli air campaign against Iran has introduced new risk to energy markets\, shipping lanes\, and investor confidence\, compounding an already complex operating environment for Midwest manufacturers. \nThis three-session series is designed to cut through the noise. Led by international trade development experts from the WBDC Illinois SBDC International Trade Center (ITC at WBDC) and the Illinois District Export Council (ILDEC)\, each session moves from understanding to action — giving you the framework\, tools\, and individual advisory support to protect your business and position it for what comes next. \nSession 3 \nWhen Section 122 expires\, one of four outcomes takes its place — and the businesses best positioned will have built their resilience plan before the cliff arrives. This session covers scenario A/B/C financial modeling\, supply chain diversification\, export readiness as a tariff hedge\, and individual advisory follow-through with WBDC Illinois SBDC International Trade Center (ITC at WBDC) and the Illinois District Export Council (ILDEC). \n  \nWho Should Attend \n\nManufacturers with active import programs — especially those sourcing from China\, Asia\, or global suppliers\nCompanies that paid IEEPA tariffs in 2025 and have not yet filed refund claims\nOperations\, finance\, and supply chain leaders with pending capex or near-shoring decisions\nExport-facing manufacturers seeking to diversify revenue geography as a tariff hedge\nBusiness owners who need to brief their board\, lenders\, or investors on tariff exposure\n\n  \nAdditional sessions: \nWatch the recording: Session 1: The New Rules of U.S. Trade \nWatch the recording: Session 2: Your Tariff Exposure Plan \n  \nFrequently Asked Questions \nDo I need to attend all three sessions? \nEach session is self-contained and can be attended independently. However\, the series is designed as a progression — participants who attend all three will leave with a complete action plan\, a filled-in set of assessment tools\, and scheduled advisory follow-up. \nWhat should I bring to Sessions 2 and 3? \nFor Session 2: a list of your top 20 import suppliers and HTS codes if available; CBP ACE entry data is ideal but not required. For Session 3: your current Q2–Q3 financial projections and a list of capex decisions currently on hold. \nIs this only for large manufacturers? \nNo. The series is designed for small and mid-sized manufacturers of all sizes — including companies with modest import programs. Import spend and tariff liability are not the same number. A manufacturer with $300K in annual imports could easily have paid $50K or more in IEEPA tariffs depending on their HTS codes and the specific rates applied to their imports. If your company imports goods\, pays duties\, and is trying to understand what the SCOTUS ruling\, Section 122\, or the July 24 cliff means for your cost structure and planning — this series is for you. \n  \n*Event details are subject to change. \n*Upon registration\, you will receive a confirmation email.
