SUMMARY:IMA Makers Safety Conference & Expo
DESCRIPTION:Today\, more than ever\, manufacturers are making workplace safety and health part of their corporate culture. Mere compliance is often not enough. Once again\, however\, manufacturers find themselves facing an uncertain regulatory environment as President Trump returns to the White House for a second term\, and once again takes control over the vast Executive Branch bureaucracy\, including the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).  \nAfter several years of record-setting enforcement and a flurry of new rulemaking\, the pendulum is expected to swing in the other direction. However\, just how much\, how quickly\, and in what ways OSHA’s priorities will change remains to be seen. Enforcement will likely be scaled back\, but how much? Rulemaking is all but certain to grind to a halt\, but does that mean the proposed heat rule is burnt out\, or that the revisions to the LOTO rule are on lockdown? This session will take a close look at what we learned from OSHA during the last four years\, and more importantly\, look ahead and assess what we can expect from OSHA the next four.  \nJoin IMA for this high-energy and informative program that will connect you with peer manufacturers\, safety champions\, government regulators\, and leading attorneys who will provide updates on important developments from federal OSHA and the State OSH Plans in surrounding states\, suggest practical solutions\, and offer innovative ideas to help keep your employees safe\, reduce risk\, and lead to better EHS outcomes for your company. \nYou’ll leave with a host of ideas\, recommendations\, and best practices aimed at helping you achieve next level safety performance! \n\nEnforcement trends and new areas of emphasis\nAudit tips and suggestions to improve safety results for your employees\nKey Updates and Compliance Strategies\nIn-depth exploration of workplace audits\, investigations\, and attorney-client privilege.\nHow to avoid compliance pitfalls that expose employers to legal claims\nNetworking opportunities to learn from your manufacturing peers and your regulators.\n\nContinental Breakfast & Lunch included.

SUMMARY:Lean Manufacturing Overview with Simulation - Belleville
DESCRIPTION:WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THE LEAN OVERVIEW WITH SIMULATION?\nThis interactive workshop combines comprehensive classroom instruction with simulation of a production facility. The basic concepts of Lean manufacturing and the tools and methodology necessary to implement “lean” on the shop floor are demonstrated. Participants assume the role of production workers\, applying lean tools to their individual workspaces and the entire product line. This learn-do technique\, over three “shifts”\, illustrates cause and effect relationships for each of the lean tools presented. \nParticipants review methodology and lessons learned from previous shifts\, deciding what and how to implement while working with realistic constraints such as available resources\, cash flow\, and resistance to change. \nBENEFIT FROM HANDS-ON FACTORY SIMULATION\nFollowing the Lean Manufacturing Overview and Simulation\, participants will have learned several new techniques to aid you in the Lean transformation on-site. You’ll be able to: \n\nDifferentiate between a “push” and a “pull” system\nIdentify the eight (8) wastes that must be eliminated to make the manufacturing processes Lean\nExplain how those wastes reduce company profits\nUnderstand the functions of a Kanban system\nMake more effective use of the employee’s time following waste elimination\n\nAGENDA\n\n8:00 AM -Traditional Manufacturing & 8 Wastes\n9:00AM – Round 1 – Traditional Manufacturing Simulation Workplace Organization (5S)\n10:00AM – 5S System\, Visual Controls\, Standardized Work\, Plant Layout\, Point of Use Storage\, Batch Size Reduction\, Quick Changeover\n11:30AM – Round 2 – Applying Basic Lean Tools\n12:00PM – Break – Lunch\n12:30PM – Teams\, Quality at the Source\, Cellular Manufacturing\, Pull Systems\, Total Productive Maintenance\n2:00PM – Round 3 – Applying Intermediate Lean Tools\n3:00PM – Wrap-up\n\nCost: $350 per person \nUpon successful completion of this class\, participants will receive a certificate of completion. \nCancellations made within seven (7) days of the program start date\, or failure to inform IMEC of cancellation may result in up to 50% of the invoiced attendance fee.

This presentation will provide insights on supporting mission-driven government organizations in delivering better outcomes for people\, with modern tools and efficient\, people-centered approaches that focus on processes from a Lean perspective. \n\n➢ Lean’s Eight Wastes Simulation\, Barton Welker & Sepehr H. Gashti\, Senior Process Architect & Process Optimization Consultant\, Illuminative Strategies Inc. The core of Lean methodology involves the identification and elimination of waste. To help focus efforts in this area\, Lean practitioners developed a list of eight wastes which establish the most likely areas where waste will occur. This presentation will focus on how using a simulation\, the wastes in a process can become visible to employees and consequently\, help create the desire for change. \n\n➢ Occupational Safety & Health Trends Update\, Lori Amerman\, Operations Coordinator\, Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center (IMEC). In this session\, the presenter will be screening a review of current trends and best practices in the field of occupational safety and health management including the latest updates for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulatory compliance. \n\n➢ Optimal Design of Experiments for Calibration\, Dr. Gregory DeYong\, Associate Professor\, College of Business and Analytics – SIUC. In this presentation\, the speaker will discuss how to develop calibration procedures using both Design of Experiments (DoE) and simulation methodologies. Optimization criteria for information matrices and the strengths (and weaknesses) of the DOE approach will be covered. \n\n➢ Problem Solving – What Every Company is Looking For\, Kent Gouty\, Consultant. This presentation is an interactive workshop. Handouts will be given to the participants for their reference. It will focus on my 45-year experience of problem- solving at General Motors which overlaps a similar to Six Sigma program at GM called “RED X”. \n\n➢ Quality: Customer’s Perspective\, Jesse Stevenson\, Adjunct Professor\, College of Engineering\, Computing\, Technology & Mathematics – SIUC. This presentation will focus in the implications of the definition and importance of the quality function. The workshop will include the discussion of tools used to help the understanding of quality from the customer’s perspective. \n\n➢ The Leadership Challenge\, Dr. Bruce DeRuntz\, Director\, Leadership Development Program\, College of Engineering\, Computing\, Technology & Mathematics – SIUC. Whether you’re an experienced leader or just starting out\, you’ll gain valuable tools to enhance your leadership journey. \n\n➢ Using Lean Leadership to Make Quality Everyone’s Job\, Sepehr H. Gashti\, Process Optimization Consultant\, Illuminative Strategies Inc.\nThis presentation introduces Lean Leadership as a tactical system for developing intrapreneurs—self-motivated problem solvers who challenge the status quo\, initiate improvements\, and take ownership of quality without the need for a formal title. Attendees will learn how to build self-checking systems\, drive daily improvements\, and foster a culture where quality is everyone’s responsibility. \n\n➢ Using LEAN/TOC in a Repair Shop Environment vs. a Steady State Environment\, Bart Welker\, Former Commander 182d Maintenance Group\, Illuminative Strategies Inc. This presentation highlights the application of LEAN and Theory of Constraints (TOC) principles to improve aircraft availability within a Maintenance\, Repair\, and Overhaul (MRO) operation. Although LEAN/TOC is traditionally associated with steady-state manufacturing environments\, this presentation will demonstrate how these methodologies were successfully adapted to a dynamic MRO setting.
