Overall Equipment Effectiveness: A Tool to Improve Manufacturing Productivity

How do you know if your critical equipment is productive and producing at max capacity?
What are your best opportunities for increasing your demonstrated equipment performance before adding another shift or more capital?
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is a tool to measure the performance of your equipment and identify where you are losing capacity. The goal is equipment that produces good parts, as fast as possible, with no stop time in production.
OEE is focused on the effectiveness of your equipment – not personnel. OEE allows you to objectively measure performance. Resulting data can engage your workforce in the continuous improvement & problem-solving process for specific equipment and processes.
Participants of the OEE session will learn to:
- Calculate OEE on your critical equipment
- Use OEE as a key metric of equipment effectiveness
- Identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement based on OEE
Immediate Application of OEE
Bring production data on a piece of your actual equipment (or cell, workstation, etc) to the training, and you can identify the historical OEE of your equipment.
Actual data needed:
- Scheduled production time for a selected time period (a day, week, or month)
- Current actual production of good items/parts during same period
- Theoretical/ideal processing time for each part processed during the period
*For a large data set, please bring an Excel file on laptop or thumb drive.
Don’t have this data available? No worries! We will have sample data you can use to learn and practice the concepts of OEE.
