Job and Task Analysis: Documenting the Work in Your Organization

January 24 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

This one-day workshop provides a practical introduction to job and task analysis, with emphasis on the well-known technique called DACUM, or Developing a Curriculum.  The workshop will provide a hands-on opportunity to use a modified version of the DACUM technique, shown to be especially effective in the context of most small and medium sized firms.  The workshop will also show how to conduct a task analysis and to use the information to solve practical problems.

Information from a job and task analysis has many uses, including the following:

  • Identify employee selection criteria
  • Identify current and future job requirements
  • Design classroom-based training programs
  • Design structured on-the-job training programs
  • Document critical jobs and tasks to meet quality management requirements
  • Prepare work instruction documents and job safety guides

The workshop is appropriate for a wide range of managers and staff members, including those involved in human resources, training and human resource development, and safety programs.  The workshop is especially appropriate for those involved in meeting the documentation requirements of quality management standards, such as the requirements specified in Section 7.2 of ISO 9001:2015

Workshop Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Describe work analysis and the key terms
  • Describe job analysis and the DACUM process
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct a job analysis
  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct a task analysis
  • Demonstrate how to use information from a task analysis
  • Develop an action to conduct a job analysis in your organization
