IMEC’s Strategic Planning approach is designed for manufacturers and delivered by professionals with diverse experience within manufacturing . The goal is to improve your whole business — your strategic positioning, how you compete in the marketplace and how to compete in the world — through a shared vision, and executive ownership of what the organization wants to achieve and why.
IMEC challenges companies to develop a forward-thinking plan for three to five years. Strategically, how will you get started and keep on track? IMEC will help you create a blueprint and make it real. You will get the tools you need to make your vision possible – fresh perspectives on your operations, aligned business strategies, practical implementation timelines, and follow-on support.
Strategic Planning Process
Executive Overview
The Overview provides the CEO and/or President the opportunity to share insight into concerns or other obstacles that may get in the way of the planning process. Prior to soliciting input from the Strategic Planning Team, IMEC and the Executive team review tools used to gauge feedback regarding organizational strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) facing the company. To ensure successful engagement, the review process allows customization necessary to accommodate your company’s culture, e.g. special terminology, etc.
Strategic Planning Team Facilitation
IMEC then meets with your Strategic Planning team, optimally, a cross-functional representation of the organization. Usually 6 - 8 people are in this group, depending on the size and structure of the company. This team is provided with an overview presentation of the steps of the strategic planning process, explaining the purpose and intent of the input survey, and asking for their cooperation to complete it and return it to us by a specified date.
Planning Session 1 - Vision / Mission & Values
The initial session of the Strategic Planning Team clarifies the importance of aligning the vision, mission and values of a company to build the foundation for development of strategic objectives and tactics for achieving the vision and mission.
Planning Session 2 - SWOT Analysis
Session 2 covers the SWOT Analysis process to build an understanding of why a company needs to fully assess and comprehend their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Surveys results are used anonymously to promote SWOT discussion and build consensus on key forces at work within the company.
Planning Session 3 - Measurable Objectives
Session 3 identifies methods of defining objectives and using quality planning tools to drive continual improvement. Additionally, these discussions promote the importance of defining measurable objectives, including key performance indicators, that are consistent with the vision and mission, and are communicated throughout the organization.
Planning Session 4 - Strategies & Prioritization
Session 4 includes strategy development techniques, resource needs analysis and prioritization tools to build a realistic and achievable strategy implementation plan.
Follow-up Implementation Status Meetings
As implementation proceeds, the IMEC facilitator meets with company management to review implementation status, uncover additional obstacles and recommend alternative approaches, as appropriate.
