In order to focus the efforts and resources for a Quality Management System implementation, a company should consider a thorough gap analysis. A company can develop an organized plan for achieving a quality standard through the evaluation of the effectiveness of its existing Quality Management System and its supporting documentation, and making a comparison to that of the standard’s requirements and customer expectations.
Working with IMEC
To assist companies, IMEC reviews all available Level 1 & 2 documentation (Quality Policy Manual and Procedures) to determine compliance to the requirements of the specified QMS Standard. In addition, we work with key management and staff of all functional areas of the company to determine the degree to which a Quality Management System has been implemented.
Based on a company’s size, as well as the number and complexity of its processes, a gap analysis can require:
• 1.5 – 2 days for ISO 9001 Standards
• 2 – 3 days for AS 9100 Standards
• 3 – 6 days for TS 16949 Standards
After identifying gaps, IMEC works with company management to estimate the effort necessary to achieve compliance and design a strategy for filling the necessary gaps. This includes identifying the resources needed to implement the strategy within the timeframe that the company wants to achieve compliance.
Potential Benefits
IMEC’s analysis will provide management:
• a written report that compares the current QMS to the requirements of the specified standard
• an understanding of the gaps between the current system and the standard’s requirements
• an analysis of the effort necessary to implement a system compliant with the standard
