Products
Manufactures performance packaging--including lidding, labels, rollstock and bags--primarily for the pet food industry

Opportunity
When Gateway Packaging experienced significant turnover among its management team, company leaders decided it was time to start fresh—with training to ensure new and experienced leaders alike shared common goals and strategies for maintaining the family-owned and -operated company’s 25-year history of quality and service.

IMEC Solution
After discussing goals and identifying focus areas, IMEC developed a training program that included seminars for approximately 20 supervisors focused on problem solving, training within industry and total productive maintenance. IMEC consultants led the sessions, which took place for several hours a day over the course of three weeks. An IMEC consultant then spent one-on-one time with several shop floor supervisors to build job instruction documents for various pieces of equipment. IMEC also conducted a full-day lean manufacturing overview for the company’s 12-member executive team.

Results
  • Production capacity enhanced
  • Equipment uptime increased
  • Quality and consistency of machine operation improved
  • Job instruction documents for key equipment completed

“As a small manufacturer, we needed an advocate, and we found that in IMEC. They talked to us about what we were trying to accomplish, then pulled together a program that met our needs. They also helped us acquire the funding that made the training possible.” - Stephanie Winslow, Project Manager
