The goal of an organization is to become a Lean Enterprise – to apply the common sense business practices embodied by Lean Thinking to all areas of a business. There are many well documented successes in manufacturing applications. However, service organizations and administrative processes within manufacturing companies have struggled with applying these concepts to their unique information and activity flows.
Workshop Objectives
This workshop will provide an overview of lean concepts, and their application to office and administrative processes. The participants will be introduced to various lean concepts, shown the common wastes within an organization, and apply the concepts of lean in a simulated office. Through a three-phase simulation, participants will experience:
• the impact of implementing lean
• actual Kaizen event activities
• how fundamental tools within lean apply to the office and/or administrative processes, including:
- standardization
- quality at the source
- workplace organization
- visual controls
- batch reduction | - pull
- flow
- leveling
- management timeframe, or “pitch”
- people involvement |
Benefits of Administrative Lean Principles with Simulation
• Increased knowledge of Lean concepts and their application to office and administrative processes
• Typical benefits obtained from Lean Implementation (dependent on area of focus):
- Understanding of “value added” versus “non-value added” activities
- Increased responsiveness to customer needs, both internal and external
- Reduced lead times
- Reduced travel distance
- Reduced square footage requirements
- Reduced work in process
- Reduced set-up times
- Reduced cycle times
- Enhanced teamwork and communication
- Multiple other benefits related to improved product flow
